Attainment Testing
PALS offers professional attainment testing to clients, which is often used for Disability Access Route to Education (DARE) when applying to colleges and third-level institutions. During this testing, a qualified psychologist tests a range of different literacy and numeracy skills including reading accuracy, reading comprehension, spelling, reading speed, mathematical fluency, mathematical problem solving, and more. After testing, the individual will be given a completed DARE attainment summary sheet, which can be submitted to the educational institution in question.
Psycho-Educational Assessments
A psycho-educational assessment focuses on the learning ability of an individual and can be used to identify whether a learning difficulty may be present. Psycho-educational assessments can be used as a tool to identify intellectual disabilities as well as specific learning difficulties such as dyslexia and dyscalculia. Psycho-educational assessments from PALS are suitable for children under six right up to secondary school teenagers and adults. While these assessments are often requested from a concerned parent or teacher, they can also be used to assess learning difficulties/disabilities in adults. All in all, the test lasts anywhere from 30-40 minutes (young child) to 3+ hours (older adult), and gives an in-depth report into the cognitive and attainment abilities of the individual. As an assessment completed by trained and qualified psychologists, this acts as a formal diagnoses when applicable.
Psychological Assessments
As well as offering assessments related specifically to education and learning, PALS provides in-depth psychological assessments for kids and teenagers of all ages. Psychological assessments examine the behavioural, emotional, and social difficulties that may be present for an individual and is a form of assessment that can be used to diagnose a number of behavioural difficulties and/or psychological issues. During this assessment, the individual is assessed using formal DSM-5 diagnostic criteria, before a DES and HSE-approved report is generated within three weeks. This assessment can aid in the diagnoses of, and support with, Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), Emotional Behavioural Difficulties (EBD) including Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), Anxiety, Oppositional Defiant Disorder (ODD), Conduct Disorder (CD), and more.
